What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, open to people of all backgrounds. Its roots lie in the traditions of the mediaeval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. Freemasonry’s aim is to help members to be the best they can be, both for themselves and for society around them .

What do we do?

We provide a structure of support to help members make positive contributions to their local communities, whether it be through fundraising or voluntary work.

Our meetings are in two parts. The first part is a business meeting during which we make decisions, pass on information and admit new members. New members are admitted during these meetings using dramatic retellings of stories based upon the practice of building. Building gives us a language and symbols to describe how we can build ourselves to become better people.

The second part of our meetings is an enjoyable meal together, normally with a degree of formality, including entertaining speeches and toasts. As well as these meetings we have social occasions that include our partners, families and friends during which we raise money for worthy causes.

Why Freemasonry?

In an increasingly divisive world, many people are looking for something with unity and purpose to help guide their way. In an uncertain world, Freemasonry’s principles of integrity, friendship, respect and charity are more important now than ever before.

How much does it cost?
It varies from Lodge to Lodge, so anyone wishing to join will find a Lodge to suit their pocket. There is an initiation or joining fee on entry and in due course some regalia will have to be purchased, this is very modestly priced. The meeting is normally followed by a meal, the cost depending on the venue, but typically £40, visitor dining £20. In addition, there is an annual subscription, which is currently just £143. If you are interested, we will provide you with full details of all our fees.

Where and how often do we meet?

We meet at Freemasons' Hall, Great Queen Street, London on the mornings of the 2nd Saturday in October (Installation), January, March & May at 11am.

Why join this Lodge in particular?

If you have a busy week Monday to Friday, our schedule of 4 Saturday meetings might suit your diary and life commitments. Also, meeting in the morning means that you can still make it home for whatever you may have planned for a Saturday evening. Our membership is draw from a very broad range of backgrounds and ages. And although a very old Lodge, we embrace modern thinking and technology. Some of our key values include support for new members, thoroughly enjoying each others company, charitable giving (within each individual's means, but without obligation) whilst celebrating the uniqueness of our rare and beautiful Stability Ritual; being one of only twenty-five such Lodges worldwide.
